What Animals Can You See Near Victoria Falls?

The Zambezi River itself is home to hippo and crocodile in genuinely large numbers — visible on most river cruises without needing to go looking for them. Elephants come down to the river to drink too, often close enough to watch from a boat.

Hwange National Park, a couple of hours away, is where the bigger safari list opens up — elephant herds numbering in the hundreds, plus buffalo, giraffe, and the full range of plains game, with lion and leopard present though naturally harder to guarantee on any single game drive.

None of this is guaranteed on any single day — it's wildlife, not a zoo — but between the river and Hwange, most guests see considerably more than they expect to.
