Do you need a 4x4 in Zimbabwe?

If you're staying in Victoria Falls town and doing day trips on tar roads — town, the Falls themselves, the airport — a sedan or crossover is genuinely fine. Our Toyota Sedan and Nissan X-Trail cover that ground without paying for capability you won't use.

Once you're heading into Hwange National Park or off the main routes, that changes. Park roads are gravel, sometimes deep sand or mud depending on the season, and a 4x4 with real ground clearance — our Fortuner, Land Cruiser 79 or Hilux — stops being a nice-to-have.
